Thanks to the generous donation from our Foundation, which aimed to support single-parent households with energy assistance, Maryland Fuel Fund was able to launch the “Power of One” program in July 2022. This initiative was created in response to the increased need for energy assistance, particularly from single-parent households, with 94% of those served being female-led households.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Maryland Fuel Fund saw a significant rise in demand for support. Building on the momentum generated from our donation, they hired a staff member specifically to manage the “division” of bill assistance for single-parent households. Additionally, they’ve introduced a new program for seniors called “Silver Lights”, which aims to provide specialized support for older adults in need of assistance.
